Weddings are evolving, and 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for fresh ideas and thoughtful choices. One of the trends we’re especially excited about is sustainability — couples are finding ways to create beautiful, meaningful celebrations while being more mindful of their impact on the planet. From supporting local flower farms to exploring innovative designs like Forever Flowers, there are so many ways to combine style, romance, and responsibility.

Supporting Local Flower Farms

Flowers are such a huge part of any celebration, and many of them travel incredible distances to reach us. It’s common for florists to source blooms from all over the world like the U.S., Mexico, Holland, Italy just to name a few.  But what about right here at home?

We have some incredible flower farms in Canada, though our growing season is shorter and many farms are small-scale. This can make it tricky to source everything locally for larger weddings, but I still love supporting our local growers as much as possible.

Whenever I can, I use locally grown flowers for personal pieces and focal arrangements. If you’re open to a little flexibility with your flower choices while keeping to a colour palette you love, we can create something absolutely beautiful using fresh, local blooms that are truly one of a kind.

Enter the World of Forever Flowers

Another wonderful way to be more eco-conscious is by incorporating silk (or “Forever”) flowers into your design.

I know — they don’t have the same scent, and some people think they can’t look as beautiful as fresh blooms. But the truth is, silk flowers have come a long way. Many of them now look and even feel real! I’ve also been experimenting with giving our Forever Blooms a gentle misting of essential oils for that hint of fresh flower fragrance.

If you’ve met me at one of our wedding shows, you already know how much I adore my Forever Flowers. I put so much care into making sure each design looks soft, romantic, and as lifelike as possible. They’ve truly become one of my favorite ways to bring floral dreams to life.

The Value of Silks vs. Fresh Flowers

One of the biggest questions I get is: “How do Forever Flowers compare to fresh flowers?”

Rather than thinking of them as “less than” fresh flowers, I like to think of them as a way to achieve a high-end, luxurious look that fits different budgets and designs — all while being more sustainable.

By choosing Forever Flowers, you’re making a thoughtful and sustainable choice that still brings all the romance and beauty you want for your wedding day. At the end of the night, everything is returned, refreshed, and ready for its next transformation.

Final Thoughts

Sustainability is more than just a trend — it’s becoming a beautiful new standard in weddings. From supporting local flower farms to embracing Forever Flowers, there are so many ways to celebrate your love story while being kind to the planet.
